Job Description

High School STEM Teacher for City School of Nashville (formerly Templeton Academy)

Pay: From $50,000.00 per year

City School of Nashville (formerly Templeton Academy) is seeking a full-time teacher who is excited for the opportunity to teach high school math and science in a project-based learning environment. City School teachers are revolutionizing the way students learn by mentoring the critical thinking and problem-solving skills they need to thrive in college, career, and life. We do this through a core advisory program that addresses the whole student, project-based learning so students can utilize voice and choice, and fieldwork, in which students use the city as a classroom at least once a week. Please note as a private school, teachers do not have to have state certification, just a degree, although teaching experience is preferable.

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate High School STEM Teacher for a full-time, on-site role at our Nashville campus. The STEM Teacher will design and deliver engaging lessons in high school math and science classes (especially Geometry, Algebra 2, and Chemistry), create a positive and inclusive classroom environment, and support the academic and personal growth of students. Key responsibilities include lesson planning, providing individualized support, evaluating student progress, and fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills among a diverse group of learners.

Duties: To plan and teach courses as outlined by the Head of School

  • Use Gold Standard Project Based Learning to design and teach each course culminating in a high-quality exhibition at the end of each term.
  • Create, revise and use curriculum aligned with core competencies
  • Use our LMS consistently and effectively to ensure clear communication with parents and students.
  • Consistently follow grading and feedback guidelines and submit and meet submission deadlines.
  • Differentiate instruction within the classroom and provide early intervention when challenges occur. Follow existing protocols related to academic and/or behavioral concerns.
  • Use personal learning plans to guide instruction.
  • Serve as advisor to a group of 10-12 students.

Compensation: Determined by experience

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM field (Master’s degree preferred)
  • Expertise and experience in teaching high school STEM, especially Geometry, Algebra 2, and Chemistry
  • Significant experience teaching science at the high school level. Experience with project-based learning preferred.
  • Demonstrable success teaching math and science to students across ability levels.
  • Competency in social and amotional Learning. Engaging students of all backgrounds and abilities and recognizing that differentiation is a tool for meeting students where they are, for whom they are, and helping them thrive academically, emotionally, socially, and culturally.
  • Proven commitment to equity, inclusion, and a personal approach that values all people and respects differences concerning race, ethnicity, nationality, age, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, religion, ability, and socio-economic circumstance.
  • Autonomous worker: A self-starter who values both initiative and collaboration
